Greetings everyone！

I can’t believe it’s already July  the beginning of summer. Three months have gone by but I’m glad that I have gotten to know many of the children. Each morning, the children and Taro-sensei (my assistant bear) happily greet each other in English at the entrance before they go to their classroom. Recently, some of the children have surprised me by greeting me first in English, “Good morning, Enchou-sensei! or “Let’s play outside, Enchou-sensei.”

In the afternoon, I usually have lunch with them. Three kids from the class who are in charge of lunch preparations that day, come to my office, knock on my door and say, “Let’s eat lunch!” and rush me to their classroom. While we enjoy lunch, they excitingly talk about the foods they like or dislike such as green peas or bell peppers. Sometimes they laugh when they find out Japanese words such as “tofu” mean “soybean cake” in English- certainly not the kind of cake they want on their birthday!

In addition, I have been travelling on the buses in the morning or afternoon with the children since May to see how the commute is for them. The weather is becoming warm these days so I notice some of them fall asleep quickly when returning home. But I found when the bus is put in karaoke mode by the teacher, suddenly the children are filled with energy!

In May, one event outside the school was our trip to Chikusan Center. The weather was picture-perfect a fine, breezy day without a cloud in the sky. I thought the children especially enjoyed eating their homemade lunchboxes under the trees and seeing the different farm animals there. Luckily, the Sakura-gumi classes were able to take a beautiful class picture among some colorful poppy flowers there.

This month, we will be having the Summer Festival (natsu matsuri) event which will be the first time for me. But I will do my best together with the staff to make it a success. We hope you will be able to enjoy the festival with us and look forward to seeing you then.

こんにちわ、皆さん!
もう既に７月なのが信じられません。夏の始まりです。
３カ月が経過し、多くの子どもたちと知り合えて嬉しいです。
毎朝、教室へ行く前に玄関で、子どもたちとタロウ先生(私の助手の熊さん)は英語で挨拶します。
最近、子どもたちの中の数人は　"Good morning, Enchou-sensei!"　とか、"Let's play outside, Enchou-sensei."　と英語で私に最初に挨拶するようになり驚いています。
お昼には、いつも子どもたちと一緒に給食を食べます。
その日の給食当番の３人の子どもが私の部屋に来て、ドアをノックし、「給食を食べましょう!」と言い、私を教室へと急がせます。
給食を一緒に食べながら子どもたちは、楽しそうにグリーンピースやピーマンなどの好き嫌いな食べ物について話してくれます。
時には、子どもたちは「豆腐」という日本語が英語の "soybean cake"（大豆ケーキ）という意味なのが分かった時には、大笑いします。確かに、子どもたちが誕生日に欲しがるケーキとは違いますね!
さらに、子どもたちにとって登降園がどのようなものなのかを知るために、私は５月以来、午前または午後に子どもとバスに乗っています。
子どもたちは、帰りのバスの中で時々、うとうと寝てしまいます。
しかし、先生によってはバスが「カラオケ」モードに入った時には、子どもたちは急に元気一杯になります!
５月の園外の行事は、畜産センターへの遠足でした。
天候は、雲一つない素晴らしい遠足日和でした。
子どもたちは木の下で手作りの弁当を食べ、様々な動物を見て喜んでいると私は感じました。
幸いにも、さくら組は色鮮やかなポピーの中で、美しいクラス写真を撮ることができました。
今月、私にとって初めての行事である夏祭りを行ないます。
夏祭りを成功させるため、教職員と一緒に最善を尽くすつもりです。
保護者の皆様が私どもと夏祭りを楽しんで頂けることを願い、また、お会いすることを楽しみにしております。
